The Kladruber, imperial grandeur in black and white

The Kladruber (‘Imperial grandeur in black and white’) is a Czech horse breed, which was originally bred in the national stud farm in Kladruby nad Labem (on the Elbe). It was an imperial stud farm, comparable with the one in Lipica. The horse was originally bred as carriage horse for the House Habsburg, but is nowadays used in dressage as well.

The Kladruber has a prominent Roman or convex facial profile. He has relatively upright shoulders, a long back, sound legs with large joints and hooves. The colours of this breed are exclusively grey or black.

The Kladruber is characterized by a wide front. For this reason standard horse blankets usually don’t fit. FryskWare has designed horse blankets for this type of baroque horse that offer enough space for his sharp shoulder line, allowing grazing, and avoid rubbing
